Adjusting Screw Holes for Hinges

No matter how carefully I’ve marked and drilled a pilot hole, sometimes one still ends up in the wrong place. When that happens, there’s a simple solution that will take care of the problem — invisibly.

First, I drill out the pilot hole with a ¼” -dia. bit, as illustrated above. Then I apply some glue to a matching dowel and tap it into the hole.

Once the glue dries, you can trim the dowel flush with a chisel. Then lay out and drill a new pilot hole. Best …
